Officer Audition

Officer Responsibilities

The Dance Team Officers are essential to the success of the team. Officers assist with choreography, lead warmups and stretches, and inspect the team before performances. They are in charge of communication (group chat and social media accounts) and organize celebrations and social events throughout the year.

Officer Requirements

Candidates must have at least one full year of membership in the dance team in order to try out for officer. Officers must have exemplary records of conduct, grades, and attendance. Officers must also be in good financial standing with the team.

Officer auditions will take place in April. Dates to be announced later in the semester.

Officer Documents

Due by April 8th, 2023

1) "Personal Statement"

Candidates should prepare a personal statement explaining why they would be an exemplary officer for the Porter Belles and Beaus Dance Team, specifically citing examples of leadership and initiative. This should be typed out and submitted, but will also be presented to the judges during the audition/interview.

3) Please ask 3 of your current teachers to send letters of recommendation to mcwanland@bisd.us, using your name as the subject line.


Solos

Please prepare a 1-2 minute solo in the genre of your choice. The solo should be a representation of your skills as a dancer AND as a choreographer. Think about transitions, dynamics, and intention as well as technique, performance, and focus. The solo should be costumed, memorized, and the music should be cut.

Interview

Candidates will be interviewed by the panel of judges. In addition to thoughtful responses, the candidates should demonstrate poise, confidence, positive non-verbal communication (posture, body language), and be well-spoken.
