Understanding the position of which Bosnians hold during the time of the Ethnic Genocide that incurred in the former Yugoslavia can create an idea of the agency which Bosnians hold as limited. As the opposition group to the SDS, the SDA faces difficulties in initiating change. The SDA has significantly more agency in comparison to the Bosnian or Bosniak individual during the 1990s however it is still limited due to this.

The goals of the SDA lied in protecting Bosniaks and for a sovereign Bosnia-Herzegovina, which implied the final dissolution of the Yugoslav state (2024). This being the agenda and hope for Bosnia in 1991.
