Shin guards are required for grades 1 and higher, Kindergarteners can wear them if they'd like but it is not required. Shin guard fit is a personal preference for your soccer player - there are two styles of shin guards, those that pull on over the foot and include ankle protection, and those that tuck in to the soccer sock.
Soccer shoes are recommended, but not mandatory. Soccer cleats are ideal for the grass or for wet field turf. Shoes made specifically for the turf are also an option if your soccer player will be on turf fields for the whole season. Most importantly, your soccer player should have a pair of athletic shoes that fit comfortably, will not hurt other soccer players while playing, and have good traction on the turf or grass!
Grades k-4 will be playing on turf fields, grades 5-8 will be playing on grass. Soccer cleats are great for both surfaces.
Soccer balls and goals are provided by BIFC for each practice. If your player has their own soccer ball they wish to bring, we recommend you write your child's name on the ball so it does not get packed up with the BIFC gear!
