As young scientists, it should be of our prime interest to know which type of intellectual property would best fit our future creations (claim it, little rockstar⭐). Would it be copyright, trademark, or patent?🤔

To answer this question, the BS Biology 3C students of Bicol University College of Science invite you to join the 2nd day of the 3rd week of the OJT webinar series entitled, “𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙪𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙩𝙮 𝙎𝙮𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙢,” which will be held on 𝗝𝘂𝗹𝘆 𝟱, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟮 (AM SESSION) 𝘃𝗶𝗮 𝗭𝗼𝗼𝗺.

TAKEAWAY

With Prof. Bataller, we learned that Intellectual Property protection is critical to fostering innovation. Without the protection of ideas, businesses and individuals would not reap the full benefits of their inventions and would focus less on research and development. For BU, this is essential as indicators of performance, requirement in the invention contest, plus factor for the proposed further research, assurance in the licensing agreement, and a source of income.

REFLECTION

Intellectual property rights (IPRs), such as patents and copyrights, are key tools that businesses utilise to safeguard their investments in innovation. It is automatically allocated to the author of a unique work. This also pertains to research data development and plays a role in data creation, sharing, and re-use. Before beginning a research project, all stakeholders should reach an agreement about ownership of intellectual property rights.
