Our distinguished guest speaker is a plant taxonomist and associate professor in University of San Carlos, Cebu. He joined us unravel uncertainty and advance our understanding on the world of plants, Henceforth, let us explore the Plant Kingdom.
Plant diversity is just as vital as animal diversity or more because it regulates ecosystems, safeguards watersheds, minimizes erosion, sustains climate, and offers a refuge for animals. However, there are numerous threats to plant biodiversity including the expanding population of humans, urbanization, deforestation, and extinction of species. Plant taxonomy assists in discovering evolutionary connections, and an ordered grouping provides a complete overview of morphological and anatomical traits. It is also essential in recognizing newly found species.

TASK 5: PLANT PHOTOGRAPHY (Not yet graded)
A CDFP Facebook page was formed to enable talks about Philippine botany. Its goal is to disseminate botany and develop appreciation for wild flora. It also raises awareness among Filipinos about the hazards to the rainforests on which their very life and survival rely. Members offer free plant identification services to the general public. It also serves as a forum for members to submit plant images from throughout the country for identification reasons, as well as a tool for linking students with expert botanists regardless of their geographical location. As such, the CDFP, in combination with this forum, provides a channel for citizen scientists to contribute to our understanding of the Philippines' botanical variety.
