One small correction for the video: For grades K-2, you can turn the lockdown browser off for students using the steps described at 01:33.
Note: These instructions are for when you are testing WITHOUT using the lockdown browser. If you would like to use the lockdown browser while students are testing on a Chromebook, follow the 3-12 Teachers: Assigning a test instructions below.
To assign a test for a grade K-2 class:
Sign into LinkIt and go to Online Testing > Assign Online Tests.
Use the dropdowns to select the Grade, Subject, Bank, and Test. Make sure that Tutorial Mode is unchecked, otherwise it will not save student results.
In the Select Students panel, leave Class Assignment and Use Rosters At Time of Test Taking selected. Once you have selected a class, the students' names will appear. You can de-select anyone who should not be taking the test.
Click Preferences in Effect, scroll to the bottom and select Change, open the Security and Privacy section, set Browser Lockdown Mode to off, and click Set.
Click Assign.
Students can now access the test by going to bhps.linkit.com/student and signing in with Google. They can access any available tests using the Launch link.
You can hide tests from the student portal by going to Online Testing > Review/Grade Online Tests and then scroll down to the bottom and locate your test. Click on the eye icon with the slash through it to hide the test. Once you are ready to have students take the test, follow these steps again and click on the eye icon to make the test visible for students.
This presentation can be shown to guide students through signing into their test: LinkIt Instructions for Students.
To assign a test for a grade 3-12 class:
Sign into LinkIt and go to Online Testing > Assign Online Tests.
Use the dropdowns to select the Grade, Subject, Bank, and Test. Make sure that Tutorial Mode is unchecked, otherwise it will not save student results.
In the Select Students panel, leave Class Assignment and Use Rosters At Time of Test Taking selected. Once you have selected a class, the students' names will appear. You can de-select anyone who should not be taking the test.
The Browser Lockdown Mode is set to on by default. However, you may need to change other settings, such as enabling the math/science palette, equation editor, or language palettes. To do so, click Preferences in Effect, scroll to the bottom and select Change, find and change the appropriate settings, and click Set.
Click Assign.
Students can now access the test by logging out of their Chromebook (by clicking on the time and then Sign Out), selecting LinkIt! Student Portal under Apps, and signing in with Google.
To monitor a test in progress:
Sign into LinkIt and go to Online Testing > Monitor Online Test Taking.
Scroll down to your Test Assignments.
Click on the pencil icon for the current test.
Questions that have been answered will be green, while unanswered questions are yellow. You can select students individually or the entire class and can pause the test (only recommended for tests with the lockdown browser turned off), submit the test, and reopen the test.
If you do not see your test listed, it may have been deactivated. Click the Show Deactivated button to turn it on. However, students will not be able to access any deactivated tests. You can activate a test in the Review/Grade Online Tests page.
When testing over multiple sessions, some test tools will not carry over to the second session. Once students submit a test and go back into it, they will not be able to see flagged questions and the answers they crossed out will no longer be crossed out. Students should record information (like flagged questions) on scrap paper that they want to maintain over multiple days of testing.
Assign the test as your normally would for a single day session.
At the end of the period, go to Online Testing > Monitor Online Test Taking
Scroll to the bottom and click on the review button (pencil icon) for the current class.
Your class roster will appear, along with the dashboard of student progress. Select the checkbox at the top of the window to select the entire class, or select the individual students.
Click Submit Test
The next period, go back into this same window and select your entire class or the individual students and click Reopen. There will be a message letting you know that anything manually graded will become ungraded. Click yes when it asks if you are sure.
To preview a test, go to Online Testing > Assign Online Test. Select the grade, subject, bank, and test. Scroll down to Preferences in Effect and click Change at the bottom. Under Security and Preferences, set Browser Lockdown Mode to off. Click Set, scroll back up to the top, and click Preview Test.
