Why the Weekly Safety Topic
To achieve Goal Zero, BHI's long-standing commitment to a workplace with no injuries, illnesses, or incidents, we expect zero unsafe conditions and unsafe behaviors on our projects. This can only be done if we have a common awareness of hazards and controls concerning the work we perform. Our safety meetings provide the method of making the information common knowledge so that our teams can make it a common practice. Our BHI family experienced a fatal event, despite having a robust safety culture, and we don't intend to have another, which takes commitment from everyone.

Those who worked closely with Donis Villalobos, known to us as Juan Ortega Latorre, described him as a hard worker and a friendly and pleasant guy to work along. He always maintained a positive attitude and kept everyone on their toes. He enjoyed the little things, was straight forward, and acted the same toward everyone. He never let a bad situation ruin his day, or anybody else's. He had the biggest heart and would talk to everyone and help anyone who needed support.
He loved soccer and to gamble. If he wasn't inviting you to the soccer field, he was inviting you to Wendover, an invitation that some wish they would have accepted. Â
At work he was a proud member of BHI's civil and excavation division and loved receiving Blue Chips, earning many for his hard work. He was an eager student, learning the ins and outs of pipe laying, and applied everything he was taught. He was a "little tank" with a huge bear hug, but what most will miss about him are the many laughs they had shared with him. His friends and coworkers will carry with them those fond memories and will remember how his personality lit up the job site everyday.Â
This tragic event that occurred on 8/11/2020, which took the life of a member of our BHI family, will forever be a stark reminder of how quickly a life can end and how devastating these events can be for the family, the crew, the division, and the company.
An event of this magnitude could have happened to any crew at BHI and we must remember that we have to be deliberately safe with all tasks to protect the lives and livelihood of those we work beside.Â
