Ms. Mitola joined BHS as a Language Arts teacher in 2021 and transitioned to the teacher-librarian role a year later. Ms. Mitola is a dog-lover, book-lover, and music-lover. She has two Corgi mixes named Casey and Zippo. She recently became certified as a secondary handler for one of BHS's therapy dogs, Kenobi. Ms. Mitola lives with her husband, Kevin, and her 11-year-old sister, Bekah. Her recent delights include watching Demon Slayer, playing Animal Crossing New Horizons, and reading as many books as she can from the BHS library.

Ms. Shaner has worked for the Bettendorf Community School District for 19 years! She started 2003 and has worked with countless students through credit recovery and study hall. Ms. Shaner enjoys photography and art in all forms. She has a degree in Interior Design, and she is currently studying to become an art teacher. She has really enjoyed her new role in the library this year. Ms. Shaner adores her Cockapoo, Capper, who she's raised since he was 8 weeks old. Her son, Winston, is a sophomore at BHS. He plays football and basketball. Ms. Shaner loves being an ultra sports mom. You can find her at the next home game with pom poms and a Bulldog flag.

Ms. Kelli (aka Ms. K. or Ms. VanBlaricome) started at BHS in 2000. She is a BHS graduate (class of way before you were born). She was born and raised in Bettendorf and only left long enough to attend University of Northern Iowa for a year. She enjoys reading, traveling, and learning about her ancestors. She also likes spending time with her dog, Jack, who is a Jack Russell/Chihuahua Mix (He came with the name, it’s not that she doesn’t know how to be creative). She has not had many jobs since she graduated high school, but this one is her favorite so far. She enjoys learning from the students and being able to share some of her knowledge with them. Ms. Kelli feels this job is rewarding, especially when former students see her in public and repeat something she taught them or share a memory from when they were in school.

Kenobi is a two-year-old yellow lab owned by Ms. Breier (former counselor at BHS) and trained as a professional therapy dog through CARES, Inc. He came to BHS in 2021 and has brought so much joy to students and staff since! Kenobi's handlers are Ms. Breier, Ms. Mitola, and Mrs. Campbell. He spends 2nd and 3rd blocks in Mrs. Campbell's classroom and typically spends the rest of his day in the library working with students and staff as they study or read. He loves scratches, playing ball, and interacting with students. Learn more about our district therapy dog program here.
