Refresh + Power

If you get a black screen and your Chromebook will not power on or charge, it could be in a "deep sleep." Try holding down the refresh button and pushing the power button (see picture below) and then waiting a few seconds to see if a light comes on or the screen comes on. This should reset your Chromebook and bring it out of the deep sleep to power on and accept a charge.
