Chromebook Information

Chromebook F.A.Q.

Q: What rules do students need to follow when using their ChromeBooks?

A: Students should not eat or drink while using their Chromebook. They should keep the school-issued cover on their Chromebook at all times. Students should not walk in the hallways with their Chromebooks open in their hands. Students should never leave their Chromebooks unattended and should never leave their Chromebooks in a vehicle overnight. Students are responsible for their Chromebooks and will be charged fees if they are lost, stolen, or damaged.

Q: What do I do if my Chromebook is not working?

A: If your Chromebook is not working properly, you may come to the library for tech assistance. If the issue cannot be fixed immediately, Ms. Shaner or Ms. Mitola will issue you a loaner Chromebook while yours is being repaired. When your Chromebook is fixed, you will receive a pass letting you know that you can return your loaner to the library and get your Chromebook back. This process is pretty quick, and sometimes you might even get your Chromebook back the same day. However, it can take up to 2-3 days to get your Chromebook back. In the meantime, you are welcome to use your loaner like you would your own Chromebook and are welcome to take it home.

Q: What do I do if I forget my Chromebook at home?

A: You may check out a loaner Chromebook for this reason once per quarter. The loaner must be returned at the end of the school day. Students are responsible for bringing their Chromebooks to school every day.

Q: What do I do if my Chromebook battery dies during the school day?

A: Students are responsible for charging their Chromebook at home each night and bringing their fully charged device to school each morning. It is not recommended for students to bring their Chromebook chargers to school with them. If you forgot to charge your Chromebook at home, you may ask your teacher if they have a charger you can borrow for the block. Be aware that your teachers will have limited supplies of chargers for students to use during class. It is your responsibility to bring your Chromebook to school charged, so if your teacher cannot help you, you may need to complete your schoolwork on paper instead of online. We do not offer charging in the library. We do not loan out chargers from the library. Students will not be allowed to leave class due to a low battery.

Q: What are the different technology fees students could be charged for lost or damaged items?

A: Students are issued a Chromebook, a Chromebook charger, and a Chromebook cover as freshman. Students are only charged fees if these items become lost, stolen, or damaged. A replacement Chromebook charger is $60. A replacement Chromebook is $250. The charge for a broken Chromebook screen, charging port, or keyboard is $50. A replacement Chromebook cover is $25. Any technology fees charged will be added to the student's account in Infinite Campus and may be paid in the Activities Office.

Q: What can Chromebooks be used for?

A: Chromebooks and student WiFi are for school work. Students should not use their Chromebooks for gaming, social media, or any kind of instant messaging during class time. Chromebooks are intended to enhance learning, not distract from it. At home, these sites are okay as long as the online activity is legal, safe, and approved. Trying to "get around" blocked sites, searching restricted topics, or engaging in illegal activity using a school device will result in disciplinary action. Using school-issued technology is a privilege that can be revoked.

Q: I have a different question about Chromebook policies. Who should I ask?

A: You may contact Ms. Mitola, our Teacher-Librarian, or Mr. Sotelo, our Technician. Find their contact information on our Library Staff page.
