The contest will consist of a 25 question General Knowledge Exam, ID, Practicum, and Math exam.
It will be based on the following scenario: Emergent care in feline or canine patients.
The general knowledge topics for the exam may include the following:
Behavior
Disease (causes and sources, signs and clinical signs)
Medical records
Medical terminology
Anatomy/physiology
Body Condition Score: Dog, Cat, Beef Cattle, Dairy Cattle, Equine
Regulations (OSHA: Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration; GHS: Globally Harmonized System for Hazard Communication; SDS: Safety Data Sheets)
Patient management
Facility management
Practice management
Genetics
Nutrition
Husbandry
Students will also complete 2 practicums based on the same scenario from the exam. The following are all potential practicums:

Using a Microscope - Dry
Opening a Surgery Pack
Surgical Site Preparation
Cystocentesis in Companion Animals
Handling and Restraining Practicums
Applying a Nylon Dog Muzzle
Applying a Cat Muzzle
Restraint of a dog for cephalic venipuncture
Restraint of a cat for jugular venipuncture
Limit 2 teams per chapter
The Vet Science Contest will take place in the West Tremonton Stake Center of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints just south of the Box Elder County Fairgrounds.
