J:  Vector Network Analyzers

There are a number of Agilent/Keysight vector network analyzers (VNAs) in the department.  Here are some links to help you get started with the prerequisites of understanding coax connectors and cables as precision RF instruments in a VNA measurement:

01a_Making_AmphenolRF_Conformal_Cables - these connectors and tools are in the Cory 119 instructional lab

01b_Making_Santron_Conformal_Cables - these connectors and tools are in one professor's research lab, but posted here if you want to buy these parts/tools for your lab

02_Calibration_with_85093-60008_ECal.pptx   - this ECal is in one professor's research lab, but the general principles are the same for various ECal models

03_Calibration_with_N4691-60006_ECal.pptx - this ECal is the model we have in the Cory 119 instructional lab

Agilent_Network_Analysis_Basics_Presentation  - a video presentation created by Agilent, gives an overview of what "network analysis" means in terms of VNAs

The EE142/EE242 course taught by Prof. Niknejad has a lab component which uses VNAs heavily.  While there is more information on those courses' web page, here are some videos taken when Dr. Joel Dunsmore from Agilent visited the class and gave some lessons on particulars of VNAs:
