A DeCal (Democratic Education at Cal) is a class created and facilitated by students and sponsered by a faculty member. The course covers topics not traditionally addressed in university curriculum
"Zero Waste" was initially a term describing the industrial practice of changing resource life cycles so that all products are reused. The term has recently been reprised to address a a movement of people living more sustainably by sending as little to the landfill as possible.
The course was first offered in Spring 2018.
The DeCal was created by UC Berkeley Senior, Sage Lenier.
The course operates on a first-come first-served basis and is available semesterly. The course control number can be found on the DeCal website at the beginning of each semester.
