Please review the following best practices to ensure optimal teaching through Zoom:
Log into your UC Berkeley ZoomPro account (instructions)
Note: Make sure you are conducting all course-related content through UC Berkeley and not a personal Zoom account
Verify you have a "Licensed" ZoomPro account (instructions)
Download the Zoom Desktop Client (aka Zoom App) for your computer (instructions)
Configure settings to prevent "Zoom-bombing" (instructions)
Schedule all course Zoom meetings for the semester (instructions, see Video #1)
Regular/reoccurring class times
Office hours
Other events (e.g., mock capstone showcase, virtual coffee chats)
Determine if teaching team member (e.g., GSI, proctor) should be a host, co-host, or alternative host (see Video #2)
Host: has all hosting privileges and controls
Co-host: assigned by host during a meeting; has limited hosting privileges and controls (e.g., cannot start a meeting for the host)
Alternative host: pre-assigned by host in meeting settings to have all hosting privileges and controls; de facto host upon starting meeting until original host both joins meeting* (alternative host then becomes a co-host)
* Optional Reclaim Host when rejoining: when the original host of a meeting rejoins, they will have the option to reclaim host controls or remain as a participant or co-host, in order to not disrupt the current host.
(If needed) Review student requests for Zoom accessibility/accommodations
If a student has a Letter of Accommodation (LOA) for captioning or captioned media accommodation, the UC Berkeley Disabled Students’ Program (DSP) will provide ADA-compliant captioning services. After uploading the recording to bCourses, you can email (dsp@berkeley.edu or dsp-captioning@berkeley.edu) a link to the recording and they will take care of the captioning, usually within 24 hours.
Please note that Zoom, Kaltura and YouTube’s automated captioning and live transcription services are not ADA-compliant.
(Optional) Delegate teaching team member (e.g., GSI, proctor) "Scheduling Privilege" to schedule Zoom meetings on your behalf (instructions)
Please note that the delegated member will be able to see all your scheduled Zoom meetings.
