308t's Request
All 308ts are housed at NRLF and are a type of restricted item. They can only be requested in person and viewed at the owning library. We do NOT check out 308ts.
Requesting 308ts
Look up the book by either Permanent Call Number or title like a normal book. Click the request button in the right corner and select patron physical item request.
In the requester tab enter MAIN and select CIRC/SUP Main (see picture above)
Important: In the note section make sure to put in the patron's name and email so that a supervisor can contact them when the book arrives.
Let the patron know that they may bring a flash drive to scan the item for free.
Remind the patron that they must bring their government-issued ID in order to view the 308t.
Viewing 308ts
When the book comes in, take their government-issued ID (driver’s license, passport, military ID, etc.) and place it in the ID box with the hold slip. Do not take credit cards, staff ids, entire wallets, etc.
Do not desensitize the 308t’s. CHECK TO SEE IF THE BOOK IS SENSITIZED.
The item must remain in the building.
Returning 308ts
When they return the item, ask them if they need to look at it again.
If so, print a new holdslip if needed or extend the hold by clicking the ellipsis and select "update expiry" under the Loans tab
Put item back on the 308t shelf
If they do not need it anymore, give it to a supervisor to clear the hold.
SUPERVISOR: Check out the book to the Main account and then check in to set it in transit. This is for statistical purposes.
****Often if the 308T has a recent date (late 90’s on), there will be a pdf version of the dissertation online, and the patron can save the PDF to their computer, or email it to themselves, eliminating the need to order this restricted item from NRLF. If you can look it up and discover that this alternative is available, they will undoubtedly love you and be ever so grateful.
