Our Focus: 1st - 3rd Grade East Bay Classrooms. Reading at grade level by the end of 3rd grade is a key predictor of a student's long-term academic and career success. The Cal Football Reading Challenge Book Drive will focus on providing books to 1st - 3rd graders at Title I schools in West Contra Costa Unified School District, Berkeley Unified School District, and Oakland Unified School District. Book titles have been sourced with the support of our curriculum and literacy experts in our partner districts.
Our Goal: Our goal is to provide a minimum of 500 books in East Bay classrooms. Books will be distributed by Cal Football Student-Athletes and accompany a classroom visit & read aloud. Every book donated will find its way to a Title I classroom and a Bay Area student to encourage summer reading.
