Parent’s Right to Withdraw from Religious Education (RE)
At Beoley First School, we follow the statutory requirements for Religious Education (RE) as set out in the National Curriculum and our locally agreed syllabus. RE is an important part of our broad and balanced curriculum, allowing children to explore different beliefs, values, and traditions in a respectful and inclusive way.
However, we recognise that parents and carers have the legal right to withdraw their child from all or part of RE lessons if they wish. This right is set out in the Education Act 1996 and applies to all maintained schools in England. Parents do not need to provide a reason for their decision.
If you are considering withdrawing your child from RE, we encourage you to discuss this with the headteacher to explore how we can support your child’s education while respecting your wishes. Where a child is withdrawn, parents may be asked to provide alternative learning activities during RE lesson times.
To request a withdrawal, please contact the school office to arrange a meeting with the headteacher.
For further information about our RE curriculum, please see the links and documents below, or contact the school directly.
