The Performing Arts pathway focuses on the direct creation of art and entertainment by the individual artist instead of through a secondary physical medium. Performing artists are themselves the medium of creative expression.

Course Description:
DANCE 1 CTE
Prerequisite: Student must have a B or better in the last P.E. class attended if class is used for P.E. credit. This is a beginning level course where students learn the fundamental dance moves in Jazz, Contemporary, Ballet and Hip-Hop. Students will learn dance routines relevant to each style, as well as beginning choreography concepts. Appropriate dance attire and shoes are assigned by the instructor. This course is in an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) where students upon successful completion of this course may receive college credit transferable to CSU/UC. Meets the “f” Visual Performing Arts CSU/UC admissions requirement. Credit for Dance 1 will be CTE credit after a student has fulfilled their PE requirement.
Grades: 10, 11, 12 Year UC/CSU-f Earn College Credit
DANCE 2 CTE
Prerequisite: Dance 1, or by audition and teacher selection
Dance 2 is an intermediate level class which builds off of the skills learned in Dance 1. This course includes further instruction for students to refine their technique in Jazz and Contemporary dance. Students continue to learndance routines as well as deepen their knowledge in choreography; and have the opportunity to perform in dance productions throughout the year. Appropriate dance attire and shoes are assigned by the instructor. This course is in an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) where students upon successful completion of this course may receive college credit transferable to CSU/UC. DANCE 3 CTE – ADVANCED
Prerequisite: By audition and teacher selection
Dance 3 students gain career specific skills which focus on choreography, teaching and dance production. Students will have the opportunity to work with local elementary schools and dance studios to gain professional experience within the performing arts. Dance 3 students will be able to participate in performances such as rallies, and the advanced dance showcases in the fall and spring. Appropriate dance attire and shoes are assigned by the instructor. This course is in an articulation agreement with Diablo Valley College (DVC) where students upon successful completion of this course may receive college credit transferable to CSU/UC.
