Education Child Development, Family Services Sector - Education Pathway
The Education pathway is designed to prepare students for professional or learning support positions in education, prekindergarten through grade twelve. Students study human development; standards, regulations, and codes; positive guidance and counseling techniques; age-appropriate and gradeappropriate learning strategies; learning theories; and standards-based curriculum and instructional design. Students can apply and practice their knowledge and skills at a variety of elementary and secondary education sites.

Course Description:
CAREERS IN EDUCATION I
Careers in Education is a year-long course designed to prepare students for careers in the field of education through both the integration and development of core academic content and field experience. Students will be introduced to the philosophical, social and historical roots of education in America, as well as exploring current issues and challenges. Students will also learn the professional norms, skills and competencies related to careers in education. This course is designed to provide junior and senior students with a deeper understanding of human development and effective educational practices by incorporating a work-based learning component. Students will develop their critical thinking skills through the application and integration of academic and career technical industry specific skills during an internship at a local school. Student experiences in learning educational theory and applying it in a real local classroom will prepare students to pursue post-secondary education in related fields of study. Completion of this course with a C or better and a B or better on the final exam will earn the student college credit from DVC which is 100% transferable to the UC and state college system.
Grades: 11, 12 Year UC/CSU – g Earn College Credit

Students will develop their critical thinking skills through the application and integration of academic and career technical industry specific skills during an internshipat a local school. Student experiences in learning educational theory and applying it in a real local classroom will prepare students to pursue post-secondary education in related fields of study. Students are eligible to receive college credit from Sonoma State that is UC/CSU transferable.
