Zebras - Term 4

Week 1 & 2 - Term 4

Graphic Design

This week we are looking at colours and how they are used for designing book covers, logos, advertising, packaging and labels.

Colours are really important as they can affect how we feel when we look at books and food we may want to purchase or read.

Use the following colours: Red, Green, Yellow, Blue, Orange, to brainstorm answers to the following questions:

  • What does this colour make you think of? 3 words
  • What does this colour taste like, think of foods that are this colour? 2 words
  • How does this colour make you feel? 3 words
  • What do you think the colour could represent? 2 words

Use the answers from your brainstorm to make a slideshow. Make a title page called "The Meaning of Colours" and one slide for each colour. Each colour slide should have images to match the colour and use the words to make a poem. An example for yellow could be:

Daffodils, Pikachu, Sun

Lemons, bananas,

Happy, cheerful, bright

Energy and Joy

The last slide will be an image of the packaging of one of your favorite foods or the cover of your favourite book or magazine. Comment on the use of colour in this image. How many colours are there? Why do you think these colours have been used?
