What's Happening in PTP

We have had a great month in Primary Talent Pool working on divergent thinking. Students have been introduced to Dudley the Detective who uses "detective thinking" when he is trying to solve problems. Each grade level's work increases in complexity and students are doing a great job thinking like Dudley!

In kindergaten, students have been learning about detective thinking and creativity. We are using detective thinking to learn how objects can be used differently than the way they appear. Students create dot pictures and objects using the first letter of their name.

In first grade students are learning about the importance of detective thinking. We focused on the work, "elimination," this month as students worked to use clues to find what was missing. We are also learning about the power of observation and how that helps provide more evidence.

In second grade students are using The Book With a Hole to learn about creating scenes that include details. Students are also focusing on "detective thinking" as they solve problems and look for clues.

In third grade students began a creativity lesson on convergent thinking. They are learning about the correct way to solve logic puzzles. Some students are also working on learning about different brain puzzles such as anagrams, hink pinks, rebus puzzles and riddles.

Math Enrichment

In math enrichment we are working on logic puzzles. Students are learning about the importance of elimination and using mathematical steps in a logical sequence. In third grade we are working on sample Noetic math problems to prepare students for the Noetic Math Challenge which takes place in November.
