What's Happening in PTP

Students in grades K-3 have been hard at work in the classroom. As we approach the end of the first semester students are in the process of taking MAP reading and math tests. This data helps to inform instruction in the classroom as well as in the PTP program.

In kindergaten, students are learning to apply detective thinking by putting clues together to deduce the one correct answer. Students are also learning to classify and organize the information they collect.

In first grade students have been introduced to Isabel the inventor. Isabel teaches students about seeing extraordinary possibilities in ordinary, everyday items. In small groups, students are learning the SCAMPER strategy and are practicing applying it to objects.

In second grade students are learning about convergent thinking. They are using the skills of deductive reasoning and analysis to make decisions. In small groups, students are learning about the depth and complexity icons.

In third grade students have been learning about deductive logic and how to use logic elimination grids to organize clues into a visual representation. In small groups, students are working on word puzzles, the SCAMPER strategy and using logic when reading.

Christmas Ideas

With Christmas around the corner and gift-buying at top of the mind, looking at the role of play and buying thoughtful gifts to help develop our young learners can be interesting to study.  We learn from Jean Piaget’s Theory of Play in education and psychology to understand the stages of children’s development.  In this article, revisit the stages of play and appropriate gifts for each stage.
