As a tenth-grade class, we have been reading the Mexican novel Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel. This novel follows the youngest daughter of the de la Garza family during the Mexican Revolution. Esquivel communicates Tita de la Garza's struggles by writing traditional Mexican recipes combined with stories about family and identity. We wanted to take inspiration from Esquivel's work and create our very own recipes that would tell a personal story and reflect the individual cultures of each of the sophomores at ISB.
