This is my favorite area in our room. We gather here to learn, share, and explore the world together. We expect kiddos to sit and listen respectfully.
Children become readers and strengthen their skills sitting around this table. Many memorable moments are made here!
The kiddos use this tool every day. They check in, make lunch choices, and use it for various activities in all subjects.
In order for children to fall in love with reading they need to be surrounded by rich, fun, and exciting books! We have a shelf for fiction and nonfiction.
They may be ancient and get stuck quite a bit but we still love them. These hold student belongings along with classroom supplies.
We keep track of our day and check in with our jobs here on this cabinet. We rotate the jobs each week so everyone gets to share in the classroom responsibilities.
I believe children need choice and movement so I offer a variety of seating options. I encourage kiddos to think about how they learn best and what can help them focus. Some need to stand while others would rather lay or sit on the floor. Together we make rules for how to use these items responsibly.
I use tables in my classroom to encourage collaboration. We switch seats several times a year to get to know one another and mix things up.
We use a Writer's Workshop framework so children need access to a variety of writing paper and other resources. It's exciting to see how often these need refilled.
When in sight, spell it right. We use this resource often when writing. There are 50 words first graders will be expected to spell correctly by the end of the school year.
