Reading is a VERY important part of 1st grade.  Our students are entering at many different reading levels. We use Daily 5, flexible reading groups, and individualized goals to allow students to work at their own level.  Nightly reading is crucial to your student’s reading development. Here are some important aspects of our reading program.

Daily 5: This is a structure which allows students to spend time practicing their reading skills.  The Daily 5 consists of students reading to self, reading to someone, listening to reading, working on writing, and working with words.  Between each of these components reading strategies are modeled and taught. While students are doing a rotation of Daily 5, I’ll be meeting with students one on one and within small reading or strategy groups.
