Writer’s Workshop: This is a method of teaching where children work independently and with peers on their own pieces of writing. We use a variety of ‘real’ books (picture books, non-fiction, poetry, etc.) along with other materials to model what writers do in the before, during, and after processes of writing. Students are given opportunities to write in a variety of genres which helps to foster a love of writing. The genres we cover include: personal narrative, opinion, non-fiction, fiction, & poetry.

This workshop method allows me to meet the needs of every student by differentiating their instruction based on information gathered through my individual writing conferences. As students develop they will be expected to have more complex sentences and their voice should be heard in their writing along with using correct capitalization and punctuation.
