Padlet is a web-based application that allows users to post written, video and/or image notes to a digital classroom wall.
Research shows that summarizing is a high-impact instructional strategy that supports lesson retention in all content areas. Summarizing is a powerful thinking strategy that promotes the ability to make decisions about information in efficient ways. Padlet is a fantastic tool to promote summarizing in your classroom. Additionally, by allowing students to see each other's summary, you are creating a student-centered lesson that provides scaffolding to students that are not sure where to start. Students can create a summary of a chapter, a daily lesson, a math strategy, an article, etc. Interested in how to get started? Check out the video above.
Padlet is a fantastic EdTech tool for displaying student learning. Based on the success criteria of a lesson, students can demonstrate their understanding by creating learning artifacts and post this on a Padlet. For example, if students are learning a new Math strategy, they can create a screencast of the steps to solve the problem directly in a Padlet post. Additionally, students could post an image that represents a vocabulary word they are currently learning. By posting student learning artifacts in a Padlet, students can review each other's work, give feedback and/or ask questions, promoting a student-centered learning environment. Students can create their own graphic organizer in Padlet. Graphic organizers are fantastic learning tools for students of all ages to organize, clarify, or simplify complex information. They help students construct understanding through an exploration of the relationships between concepts. Additionally, graphic organizers help us meet the needs of all learners. Presenting information in both text and graphic formats is one of the most basic ways to make a lesson accessible to more students. In fact, much of the research on graphic organizers have focused on how powerfully they can impact the learning of students with learning disabilities and special needs.
