It has been a wonderfully festive yet productive week for Year 6! The children have officially wrapped up our latest inquiry into the Amazon, focusing specifically on the complexities of deforestation. To explore the conflicting interests involved, the class produced an impressive range of work—from detailed diagrams and line graphs to emotive diary entries written from different perspectives. The end results are truly fantastic, and the children should be incredibly proud of the mature and thoughtful approach they took to such an important global issue.
Beyond our geography work, we took a step back in time with the help of Miss Simmons. The children prepared and baked (and, thankfully, tidied up after!) carrot cookies using an authentic World War 2 recipe designed for minimal sugar rations. It was a complete "hands-on" experience as they prepared all the ingredients themselves, though it’s fair to say there were some very mixed reviews on the final taste! We also enjoyed a brilliant Christmas "crafternoon" on Thursday. A huge thank you to the parents who joined us, and an even bigger thanks to Miss Simmons for organizing such creative craft activities, all inspired by the resourceful ways people decorated for Christmas during the war.
