This week, Year 2 began by using thier thinking skills to explore different modes of transport, comparing how people travelled in the past with the ways we travel today. The children shared thoughtful ideas about what has changed, what has stayed the same, and why transport continues to develop. Our learning then moved on to an introduction to George Stephenson, an important figure in the history of trains. We were fascinated to discover how his famous locomotive, the Rocket, transformed travel and helped shape modern life. We discussed how trains made journeys faster, connected communities, and opened up new opportunities for people.
In Maths, the children have been focusing on subtracting one- and two-digit numbers under 100. They have shown increasing confidence using different strategies and worked carefully through a range of challenges. In English, we have been practising how to use verbs within our sentences, helping the children make their writing clearer, more detailed, and more exciting to read.
