MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGES

INTENT: To learn French colour vocabulary.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to recite the French colours, identify them on a series of pictures and then write them down on sticky notes and label the different colours they can find in the classroom.

IMPACT: the children will know a range of French colour names.

INTENT: to learn French animal vocabulary.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn the names for various French animals and then to combine this knowledge with the colours they learnt last lesson to make French noun phrases.

IMPACT: the children will know a range of words in French for animals.

INTENT: to learn the words for months and the days of the week in French.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn then names in French for months and days and then to play a selection of interactive games to reinforce their learning.

IMPACT: the children will know the French words for days of the week and months.

INTENT: to be able to identify parts of the body in French.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn the French vocabulary for parts of the body and then to put their new knowledge into effect drawing faces (and aliens!) at their teacher's direction.

Children then to dance and sing to 'Tete, Epaules, Genoux et Pieds'.

IMPACT: children will know many of the French words for different parts of their bodies.

INTENT: to be able to ask and answer simple questions about themselves.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn how to ask and answer questions about their name and how they are feeling.  

Children then to play a game where they pick a name card and introduce themselves to their neighbour in their new character.

IMPACT: children will be able to hold a short simple conversation.

INTENT: to learn how the French celebrate Christmas.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn about French Christmas customs and then to create Christmas cards with French greetings.

IMPACT: the children will understand some French Christmas traditions.

INTENT: to be able to demonstrate their conversational skills to include their age and hobbies.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn how to tell someone their age and to say what they enjoy doing in their spare time.

Children then to combine their learning from Term 2 to complete a comic strip with several individual conversations.

IMPACT: children will be able to hold short conversations and know how to write these down.

INTENT: to learn French vocabulary for items in their pencil case.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn the French names for a range of items in their pencil case.  Children then to practise this vocabulary with a game of 'Dans ma trousse il-y-a ...'

IMPACT: the children will be able to name items in their pencil case.

INTENT: to learn the vocabulary for clothes in French.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn the French names for a wide variety of clothes.  The teacher will then show an image of people in a range of outfits and the children will identify who the teacher is describing in French.

IMPACT: the children will learn the French words for a range of clothing items.

INTENT: to learn how the French celebrate Easter.

IMPLEMENTATION: the children to explore how the French celebrate Easter and compare and contrast French traditions to those of the UK.

IMPACT: the children will know how the French celebrate Easter.

INTENT: to learn French vocabulary for fruit.

IMPLEMENTATION: the children to learn the French names for a range of fruits that they might come across if they were to visit France.  The children then to learn a song celebrating a love of fruit!

IMPACT: the children will know the French words for a generous selection of fruit.

INTENT: to follow a short, familiar story in French

IMPLEMENTATION: children to listen to the story of Le Petit Chaperon Rouge and to identify key words and phrases from it.

IMPACT: the children will be able to follow the story of Little Red Riding Hood in French.

INTENT: to learn French vocabulary for where we live.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn how to say whether they live in a house or an apartment and whether that building is in a city, the countryside, the mountains or by the sea.

IMPACT: the children will be able to say where the live in French.

INTENT: to learn the French vocabulary for rooms in a house.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to learn the words for the different main rooms in a standard house and to be able to identify them in French.

IMPACT: the children will be able to name the rooms in a house in French.

INTENT: to understand French vocabulary for food.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to be taught a range of French vocabulary words and then to apply this knowledge to a film of French children making pizza.  Some of the pizza flavours were more familiar than others!

IMPACT: children will understand some French vocabulary for food.

INTENT: to recap our understanding of the French we have learnt this term.

IMPLEMENTATION: children to look again at a range of different French topics to consolidate their learning.

IMPACT: children will demonstrate their retention of the French language.
