Unit 1: Narrative Writing

⭐ Students will use details to bring their writing to life! This includes describing characters, setting, events, and writing dialogue. 

Unit 2: Informative Writing 

⭐ Students will write informative pieces that clearly teach about a topic. 

⭐ Students will include facts and details to support their topic. 

⭐ Students will use diagrams, labels, and other text features when appropriate. 

Unit 3: Opinion Writing 

⭐ Students will write opinion pieces that clearly state their opinion on a topic. 

⭐ Students will include reasons to support their opinion. 

⭐ Students will provide details and examples to support their reasons. 

Unit 4: Poetry 

⭐ Students will learn different forms of poetry.

⭐ Students will write poems that express ideas, feelings, and experiences. 

⭐ Students will focus on word choice to make writing interesting and expressive.

Unit 5: Fiction Writing 

⭐ Students will develop a simple problem and solution within the story. 

⭐ Students will create characters and settings for their stories. 

⭐ Students will include a sequence of events that are easy for readers to follow. 

Unit 6: How-To Writing 

⭐ Students will write how-to pieces that teach the reader how to do something.  

⭐ Students will include a list of materials or needed items when appropriate. 

⭐ Students will explain steps in a clear, logical order.
