Students will continue to practice their fact fluency as they learn new, more challenging concepts. Students will use their fact fluency to understand place value, solve 2-digit and 3-digit equations in both addition and subtraction, while also using their critical thinking skills to solve word problems. We will also learn money, 2D and 3D shapes, telling time on an analog clock, measurement, introduction to fraction concepts, and collecting data to use graphs.

In 2nd Grade, one of our main goals for students is to master fact fluency. Fact fluency means students have memorized all of their math facts, rather than using solving strategies like counting on our fingers.
For example, if I ask a student what is 1 + 1, they will say 2 immediately! We want to see that by the end of the year for all of their math facts!
This is what our addition timed tests look like. The goal is to answer all facts correctly within an allotted time frame (about 1 minute to 1:20)
