Governor's School of North Carolina

The Governor's School of North Carolina is a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public school unit or non-public school.

NC State College of Education: LIFT Leadership Institute for Future Teachers

LIFT is a five-day, residential program for students of color and bilingual students who are rising high school seniors in North Carolina interested in leadership development and also exploring a career in education. All expenses paid.

Outward Bound Educational Five Day Course 

This is an Owen High School summer tradition!  Each summer multiple Owen High School Students and two staff members are selected to go into the woods for 5 days of backpacking fun.  It is a fully funded opportunity in partnership with the Local Kiwanis, Outward Bound, and Owen High School.  If you are interested please reach out to your counselor.


One Life Program

This program is in partnership with Buncombe County's Goodwill Training Facility.

Goodwill offers a variety of free, year-round services to help youth reach their full potential, both vocationally and academically. Some of the services include job readiness training, paid work experience opportunities, communication skills training, individual career plans, etc.  Each Owen High student that participates earns $1000 over the summer!  For more information contact Lance Crawford at 828.298.9023 ext. 1167 or contact your school counselor.
