A-B Tech/CCP
A-B Tech Community College &
Career and College Promise (CCP)
is a dual-enrollment program that is an excellent opportunity for qualified high school students to take tuition-free college classes, many of which transfer seamlessly to public and private universities in North Carolina. Participating students earn both high school and college credit, tuition free.
High school AND college credit is awarded upon successful completion of most A-B Tech courses. Those courses that transfer directly to the university system carry advanced high school credit & earn an additional quality point (equivalent to AP quality points for students who entered high school in the 2015-16 school year or later). A-B Tech courses use college textbooks, course syllabi, and grading policies, and are taught with the same rigor as those taught to college students. High school students are reminded that all A-B Tech classes will be included on a student’s college transcript, which follows the student through their post-secondary years, regardless of educational goals.
DUAL CREDIT - Students enrolled in CCP courses can earn college credit hours and high school credit at the same time.
Some courses provide credits that can satisfy high school graduation requirements by replacing required high school courses.
Courses in the transfer pathways (and select courses in the CTE pathways) provide an advanced level credit for GPA purposes (5.0 credit).
Some students take only a few classes, but the Transfer Pathways make it possible for students to earn a transferable associate's degree.
College credits transfer to all University of North Carolina campuses and independent colleges and universities who have signed the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement.
Students can also work towards several Career-Technical Pathways, many of which include classes that are taught face to face at the high school.
ADDITIONAL BENEFITS:
Saving money and earning HS credits
Get a head start on college while still in high school and gaining knowledge on how college courses are structured
Become more appealing as a college applicant while exploring interests in an advanced educational setting
Apply earned credits (SHC) towards the freshman/sophomore General Education Core
THINGS TO CONSIDER:
Do I meet the eligibility requirements?
Am I willing to pay for textbooks?
Can I succeed as an independent learner in a rigorous college course?
Does it fit in my schedule? (Don’t forget to investigate options such as extra periods and summer courses, which provide extra flexibility.)
Will it enhance my pathway or give me skills that I want/need?
REMINDER: To participate in a Distance Learning course, students and parents/guardians must read and sign the Distance Learning Agreement.
*Some of the courses that BCS students register for are considered "late start" by A-B Tech in order to more closely align to our semester. The schedule for these classes is not reflected in the standard A-B Tech academic calendar. Students are encouraged to verify their course start dates with their School Counsilor or in their WebAdvisor account.
Career & College Promise courses may involve some expenses, including textbooks and supplies. These costs are the responsibility of the student enrolling in the course.
