Read Cohen and Steele's "A Barrier of Mistrust" posted below. Reflect on how you currently give feedback to teachers or students, depending on your most recent role, through the lens of the recommendations of the article. How aligned is your own practice with these recommendations?
Choose a teacher whom you coach. Critical notes:
You must choose a teacher who will allow you to video his/her class and will also allow you to video your feedback and coaching meeting with him/her AT A LATER DATE.
Do not have the feedback/coaching meeting before our PD session. Therefore, we recmmend recording only a few days before our session.
3. Capture 15 minutes of video of this teacher’s practice--meaning, record about 15 minutes of this teacher teaching.
If you can, try to shoot video that relates to a goal that you want to work on with this teacher. For example, if you want this teacher to work on the rigor of questioning, try to capture video during a group discussion/guided practice.
Capture (through hard copy or photographs) any critical information about the task students were doing and the product they generated that is not evident on the video. For example, if they are engaged in a read aloud and discussion on the rug, please bring a copy of the text and ensure the video includes the ideas that students generate in the discussion. If students are producing a written response to text or a math problem, please bring the task/prompt and pictures of 3-5 representative pieces of student work from the lesson.
4. Download the video to your laptop's hard drive. You must bring the video to the session, but you also must be able to access it without internet access. Bring headphones/earbuds/airpods with you.
5. Fellows pursuing licensure PLEASE READ TASK 3 BEFORE recording so you can use this video as part of your task! There are additional specific steps you must take in advance in order to use this video.
