1. Answer the following questions:

• Essential Question: What does family and community engagement have to do with culturally responsive teaching and leadership?

• Think back to your own childhood and own school experience. How was your family connected or not connected to your school and educational experience?

• How might these past experiences, positive or negative, shape your beliefs as a leader about family engagement?

• What fears, hesitations, or apprehensions do you have about this work? What barriers will you have to overcome?

• What passions, beliefs and commitments do you bring that will help you do this work?

2. Read Chapters 1 and 2 In Powerful Partnerships: A Teacher's Guide to Engaging Families for Student Success

3. If you are pursuing licensure, read through Task 4 of MPALs

4. Skim pages 9-15 of the following article, Culturally Responsive Teaching, and pay attention to the chart on page 12.
