10/13/25 K-2 Stem is such a fun class! It is all about engineering exploring. We have made boats out of tinfoil with the challenge of seeing how much weight they can hold. We have made towers out of toothpicks and mini marshmallows to see how tall they can be. We have made ramps to launch 'sleds' to see how far they can go. We learn about concepts such as building foundations, ramps, and boat designs to help give us information to make informed decisions in our designs and then we design (and redesign) to improve our results. The students are incredibly clever and I have learned a lot of good ideas about how to tackle problems!

Stem is so much fun! This weeks' focus was on engineering design. We watched a video about building a home and compared our straw tower project to building the framing/support for a home. We emphasized thinking about the strength of the base as well. Students took straws and tape with the goal of making the tallest towers. There were so many unique ideas to meet the goals - it was truly impressive! Students had the choice to work in groups or by themselves.
