2/16/26 We have been working on subtraction with regrouping, focusing on 2 digit numbers for 1st and 2nd graders and 3-5 digit numbers for third graders. We also learned how to subtract from zero for our third graders. We continue to emphasize word problems, using the CUBES strategy as well as fluency fact practice daily. We practiced with various games such as tic tac toe or a write the room/scoot activity and crafts.
For third graders, assessments packages for division will be sent home soon.

1/17/2026 We reviewed addition with regrouping and had a couple of days of focused practice on fluency facts. We practiced with puzzles and coloring activities. Third graders especially continued to learn multiplication strategies. Then we began subtraction without regrouping. Our goal is to use this as continued fluency practice and prepare ourselves for regrouping in subtraction. It also helps with mental math. We practiced subtraction tens and hundreds from numbers as well. Third graders are finishing up multiplication strategies.
We sent home fluency assessment packages which had four parts. Part A was a preassessment, Part B and C were practice pages, and Part D was the final assessment. Parts B, C, and D were only needed if a student did not get a 90% on the preassessment or if a parent felt like their child just needed additional practice. These assessments are supposed to be returned as they are completed. One of our goals as teachers is to help our parents better able to assess formally how their students are learning the material and we are working to provide tools for them to use. First graders received addition to 20, second graders received subtraction to 20, and third graders received multiplication.

12/19/25 We worked on additon with regrouping. We did mazes, winter crafts, and musical chairs to practice regrouping skills. We worked on 2-3 digit numbers and even provided some 4 digit number practices for our 3rd graders. Third graders also continued to learn multiplication strategies. We emphasized fact families to help with fluency facts. We also sent home fluency assessment trifolds to encourage additional fluency practice at home. First graders received addition, second graders subtraction, and third graders multiplication.
Strategies are posted here and under teaching strategies on the homepage and math strategies under the math tab.
Fun ways to practice math:
12/4/25 In Math 3, we have been learning out fluency facts in multiplication. We have studied through x6 and will finish through x9 before Christmas. We took time to review rounding and will do some review for addition with regrouping soon. We have done crafts, played games, and practiced drill sheets.
In Corelink 1-3 math, our 3rd graders are beginning multiplication. As a class, we continue to work on Fluency facts in addition, subtraction, and multiplication depeninding on the grade level and the student placement. We have also learned about rounding, done 2 digit addition without regrouping, began working on our own to solve word problems using the CUBES technique in school, and worked on comparing numbers and inequalities. Before Christmas break we will work on addition with regrouping and fluency facts.
11/13/25 In math, we have been working on comparing numbers after we did our unit on arrays. We will also start rounding numbers next time. We continue to work diligently to improve our fluency facts and just began learning the CUBES method (Circle numbers, Underline the question, Box important information, Evaluate, Solve and check work) to solve words problems. Third graders will start working on multiplication after Thanksgiving. We will all start working on multi-digit addition with regrouping.
Families received a word problem book to do at home and are encouraged to do a word problem a day, even if it is from a different book. Also, families received trifold quiz forms for each fluency fact and are encouraged to do a page when they feel they have mastered the fact. For instance, if they are working on addition, once they have mastered +1, they can do the trifold quiz and if they do well, move onto learning +2. If they struggled then they need additional practice before moving on. Students who bring the sheets in will be given a ticket for their completed work.
10/13/25 We have managed to get through the transition of changing teachers and I think it is all going well. We have been working on equal groups and I did not realize how challenging this was, but we start arrays next week and that tends to put order to equal groups which is helpful. We have also been really emphasizing fluency facts, specifically addition and subtraction. We made some hot air balloons to hang in the classroom that emphasized double digit addition and subtraction.
Remember if your student is struggling with GoMath or homework in any way, please see me and we can trouble shoot the curriculum and concerns you have.
September 12, 2025 We did it! We got through the first week. We were tired, but your children did so well! It is a lot to learn to be a student and I am very proud of them.
We focused on counting up to 20 this week. We played games, sang songs, and made sticker patterns to reinforce skills!
