Implementation

Reflections on the Framework

Use this form to reflect on your leadership capacities. There are eight sections, each representing one C in the student leadership framework. You can use this self reflection tool as often as you want. The results will be emailed to you. You can compare your previous results with your current answers. When you read through each statement, take your time and try to be truthful (not wishful). What are you actually doing? Reflect on who you are. What are your strengths and weaknesses? Do you see changes during your time at Bates? What is the impact of your leadership work at Bates on these eight capacities?

Your responses will be kept confidential and won't be shared, unless you give permission.

Definitions of Leadership

Leadership is the act of taking responsibility for solving a problem or achieving a goal. It is something anyone can do, regardless of role or position.

Collaborative leadership is the process where leaders work together across backgrounds, sectors, and interests to pursue a shared purpose or goal. Collaborative leadership is needed when tackling challenges that require changes to how local communities operate, and therefore requires leaders to change their behavior.

“The learning process isn't finished when you acquire knowledge. It's complete when you consistently apply that knowledge. (Adam Grant)

Many people accumulate information. Far fewer use it to evolve and improve. The ultimate test of growth is closing the gap between awareness and action.” (Adam Grant)

Resources for Managers

"Catch-up workshops for new program managers and staff"

This is a very shortened version of the material/assignments that we used to help "catch-up" new program managers.  You can do the work at your own pace/time. A good way might be to take 10 min each day to do a little bit of work, but you are also welcome to do more or less ...

You will need the book Leadership for a Better World.

Day 1

Take a look at the Bates Leads google site landing page.

Read the quick intro, the definition about leadership and watch the video.

Skim the overview of the grant from the AVDF.

Day 2

Read through the Bates Leads Framework

Day 3

Use the worksheet #1

This is a good way to simply focus on two Cs and read the corresponding chapters in the book.

Day 4

Use the worksheet #2

Day 5

Use the worksheet #3

Day 6

Use the self reflection tool  (google form) to get an idea of your leadership capacities. Think about which Cs are easier for you and which might be more difficult. Why is that? Could you improve on some of these capacities? If so, how?
