A student and/or parent with a complaint regarding possible discrimination of a student on the basis of color, sex, race, national origin, age, marital status, religion, or handicap should contact the school principal, Dr. Sam Dockery. If the complainant wishes to pursue the matter, he/she will be provided, upon request, a copy of all applicable district procedures.
Harassment is strictly prohibited in all district programs and activities while on district property or on property under the jurisdiction of the district or while attending or engaged in district activities while away from district property.
Harassment includes, but is not limited to, intimidation, menacing, bullying, cyber bullying, harassment on the basis of color, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, marital status or age. A complaint regarding harassment of a student by a member of the staff member, another student or third party, should be filed with the school principal Dr. Sam Dockery at 550 9th St. SW, Bandon OR 97441, 541- 347-4413 or the Superintendent, Shauna Schmerer at 455 9th St SW, Bandon OR 97411, 541-347- 4411.
The Principal or Superintendent will investigate all harassment complaints and respond to the complainant by scheduling a conference (see School Board Policy JBA-AR).
Requests for the school to administer medication must be in writing and must include the physician's written instructions, name of medication, dosage, time interval and method of administration. The medication must be in the original container and the container label must clearly show the prescription label. Over the counter medication must be accompanied by the parent’s written instructions and kept in the original container.
As required by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act (as amended) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Bandon School District has adopted by Board resolution a policy regarding “Nondiscrimination on the Basis of Disability.” Bandon School District does not discriminate on the basis of disability in admission to, access to, or operations of programs, services or activities. Qualified individuals who need accessible communication aids and services or other accommodations to participate in programs and activities are invited to make your needs and preferences known to the 504/ADA coordinator. Please give us at least three to five days advance notice so we can adequately meet your needs.
An internal grievance procedure is also available to resolve complaints. Questions, concerns or requests for additional information regarding 504/ADA should be addressed to the Superintendent and/or Special Education Director/504 and ADA coordinator, Bandon School District, 455 9th Street SW, Bandon OR 97411, 541-347-4411. Upon request, this notice and other materials may be made available in alternative formats (for example, large print or audio) from the 504/ADA coordinator.
All doors will be locked during the day to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The north and east wing doors are for exit only.
Do not open or prop doors to allow anyone entry to the building.
Visitors must sign in at the office window after they are allowed in the front doors.
Students found to have brought, possessed, concealed or used a dangerous or deadly weapon, firearm or destructive device in violation of Board policy shall be expelled for a period of not less than one year. BSD is a Gun-free Zone which extends 1000 feet from the campuses. All other violations of the policy will result in discipline up to and including expulsion and/or referral to law enforcement as appropriate. The Superintendent may, on a case by case basis, modify this expulsion requirement. The district may also request suspension of a student’s driving privileges or the right to apply for driving privileges with the Oregon Department of Transportation, as provided by law.
Under state and federal law, “weapon” is defined as "any weapon, device, instrument, material of substance, which under the circumstances in which it is used, attempted to be used, or threatened to be used, is readily capable of causing death or serious physical injury." Weapons may also include, but not be limited to knives, metal knuckles, straight razors, noxious or irritating gases, poisons or unlawful drugs. Replicas of weapons, fireworks and pocket knives are also prohibited by Board policy.
The Board authorizes the use of video cameras on district property to ensure the health, welfare and safety of all staff, students and visitors to district property, and to safeguard district facilities and equipment. Video cameras may be used in locations as deemed appropriate by the superintendent.
Students or staff in violation of Board policies, administrative regulations, building rules or law shall be subject to appropriate disciplinary action. Others may be referred to law enforcement.
A video recording may become a part of a student’s educational record or a staff member’s personnel record. The district shall comply with all applicable state and federal laws related to record maintenance.
