A student seeking enrollment in the district for the first time must meet all academic, age, immunization, tuition and other eligibility prerequisites for admission as set forth in state law, Board policy and administrative regulations. Students and their parents should contact the office for admission requirements.
All students seeking a graduation outcome must enroll for their final academic year prior to turning 19. Admission to and eligibility for Bandon School District services beyond that date is allowed solely based on student enrollment in special district programs at the date of entrance.
The district may deny regular school admission to a student who is expelled from another school district and who subsequently becomes a resident of the district or who applies for admission to the district as a non-resident student.
All students and staff are required to attend school assemblies. Exceptions may be arranged with the Building Administrator. Any student leaving campus during an assembly, unless signed out at the office with office permission, will be considered truant and subject to disciplinary action.
The Student Code of Conduct applies to student conduct in assemblies. Students behaving inappropriately will be subject to disciplinary action.
Scheduled conferences are in the Fall and Spring. Families are encouraged to use their ParentVUE to stay up-to-date with student progress and to contact teachers through email or by calling the high school office at 541-347-4413.
By policy the following information is considered directory information and may be released through proper procedures: student's name, address, telephone number, and photograph; date and place of birth; participation in officially recognized activities; dates of attendance; degrees or awards received; weight and height of team members; and most recent school or program attended. Parents or students, 18 years of age or emancipated, may request an exclusion from the release of directory information within 15 days of annual public notice. Such requests must be made in writing and presented to the school and are only valid for the present school year. Please understand that unless the parent objects to the release of any or all of this information within 15 school days of the date this student handbook was available to your child, directory information may be released by the District for use in local school publications, other media and for such other purposes as deemed appropriate by the Principal. Bandon School District shall forward requested education records within 10 days of receiving the request. Education records policies are available for review at the Bandon School District Office at 455 9th Street SW, Bandon OR 97411.
Parents or eligible students have the right to: 1) inspect and review the student's education records; 2) request the amendment of the student's education records to ensure that they are not inaccurate, misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student's privacy or other rights; 3) consent to disclosure of personally identifiable information contained in the student's education records; except to the extent that these rules authorize disclosure without consent; 4) pursuant to OAR 581-21-410, file with the U.S. Department of Education a complaint concerning alleged failures by the School District to comply with requirements of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act; and 5) obtain a copy of the Board Policy JO-Education Records.
All aspects of school sponsored publications, including newspapers and/or yearbooks, are completely under the supervision of the teacher and Principal. Students may be required to submit such publications to the administration for approval. Written materials, posters, signs, banners, handbills, photographs, pictures, petitions, films, tapes or other visual or auditory materials may not be sold, circulated or distributed on district property by a student or a non student without the approval of the administration and/or school board. Written material displayed without authorization will be removed. Any student who posts printed material without prior approval shall be subject to disciplinary action.
Materials not under the editorial control of the district must be submitted to the Principal or their designee for review and approval before being distributed to students. The review will be based on legitimate educational concerns including whether the material is defamatory; age appropriate to the grade level and/or maturity of the reading audience; poorly written; inadequately researched; biased or prejudiced; not factual; not free of racial, ethnic, religious or sexual bias; in conflict with public school laws, rules and/or Board policy; deemed inappropriate for students; or which may be reasonably perceived by the public to bear the sanction or approval of the district.
Senate Bill 300, The Expanded Options Program, provides eligible at-risk high school students early entry into post secondary education. It also emphasizes specific provisions and priorities for at risk students. The intent is to provide a seamless education system for 11th and 12th grade students to continue or complete their education. It is the first step from high school to a post secondary education. Districts are required to give parents of at risk students annual notice regarding the program. Districts may request for a program waiver. Bandon School District has a waiver on file with ODE. Bandon School District has been granted a waiver based on our current college accelerated programs (dual credits) that are currently offered in partnership with Southwestern Oregon Community College.
All outstanding fees and fines must be paid prior to the graduation ceremony, but preferably by the end of the academic year the fee was applied. If you are unable to pay your fees, a payment plan must be discussed with the building administrator.
We are pleased to inform you that Bandon School District will implement a new option available to schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2025-26 School Year.
What does this mean for you and your children? Great news for you and your children!
All enrolled students of Bandon School District are eligible to receive a healthy breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to your household each day of the 2025-2026 school year.
Students need to have parent permission, current insurance information, be passing five or more classes and attend the school day prior to their scheduled field trip. Students may be denied participation in a field trip at the discretion of the Administration.
While on a school sanctioned activity or field trip students are prohibited from viewing inappropriate websites or content. These platforms would include but are not limited to: promotion of drugs and/or alcohol, vulgar language or depictions and/or pornographic material.
Students have a general right to freedom of expression within the school system. The district requires, however, that students exercise their rights fairly, responsibly, and in a manner not disruptive to other individuals or to the educational process.
Students who wish to take a college class for academic enrichment may request a study period to help them complete the class. The period is not to be used as free time to visit, leave campus, enter other classes or sit in the halls. It will be a supervised period and if abused, it will be revoked. Once the college class is complete and the college sends a transcript to BHS, credit will be given on the permanent transcript. If a class is dropped after the grace period given by the college, university or educational program; the student will receive the grade given by the institution and will be factored into the student’s cumulative GPA.
Wireless internet connection will be provided by the Bandon School District for students to connect to school provided devices to the internet during class and for educational purposes only. Students must have a completed BSD Electronics Communication Systems Policy IIBGA-AR signed and on file at Bandon High School. All traffic is filtered and monitored by the Bandon School District.
Students using the School District Electronic Communication System must sign a yearly agreement and abide by the School Board policy as set forth by IIBGA-AR. Students in violation of the policy shall be subject to discipline that may include any or all of the following: expulsion, revocation of district system access, and including permanent loss of privileges.
Students should not store any food or drink inside the lockers, as doing so can become a health department hazzard. Lockers remain under the jurisdiction of the district even when assigned to an individual student. A student has full responsibility for the security of the locker and is responsible for making certain the locker is locked, not jammed or dismantled, and that the combination is not available to others. Searches of lockers may be conducted at any time if there is reasonable suspicion to do so, whether or not a student is present. Students may not change lockers without school permission. Any materials displayed must be school appropriate as deemed by the Administration.
The school is not responsible for lost or theft of items in the locker. Kicking or hitting a locker, writing or carving on a locker, or damaging the lock will be considered vandalism. Students are responsible for paying for any damages. Students who jam any locker may face disciplinary action. Students are responsible for removing all items and belongings from their locker by the end of the last day of school. Anything left in lockers will be disposed of.
Media representatives may have access to students and staff only with administrative permission and may then interview and photograph students involved in instructional programs and school activities including athletic events. Information obtained directly from students does not require parental approval prior to publication.
Parents who do not want their student interviewed or photographed must submit their request in writing to the Principal.
District employees may release student information only in accordance with applicable provisions of the education records law and Board policies governing directory information and personally identifiable information.
HALL PASSES: Students are allowed in the halls only with an approved pass.
OFF CAMPUS PASSES: Students may leave campus during school hours under the following conditions: After checking into the office, the student can confirm via phone through a secretary that permission is granted by parent/guardian giving permission to leave campus on school business. Students must check in and out through the office and must have the written permission of the supervising teacher and the administrator or designee or they are considered truant. Students may not leave campus during school hours to conduct personal errands or business.
PASSES FOR RELEASE FROM SCHOOL FOR THE DAY: Students must check out at the office when they leave school during school hours, including when they leave at lunch and do not return. A note from home is required except when a student is on a school errand in which case the parent must be contacted by telephone. Students must check in upon returning. Failure to check out of the office may result in an unexcused absence or truancy. A student will not be released to any person without the approval of his/her parent/guardian or as otherwise provided by law.
Parents have access to student progress at any time via ParentVUE through Synergy as well as view report cards/progress reports.
SEARCHES- District officials may search the student and his/her personal property (including backpacks and/or vehicles) when there is reasonable suspicion to believe a student is concealing evidence of an illegal act, and/or violation of the Student Code of Conduct or district policy. Illegal items (weapons, alcohol, vapes and unlawful drugs, etc.) or other possessions determined to be a threat to the safety or security of others and/or in violation of district policy may be seized by district officials and given to the proper authorities. Students will be notified of any items seized.
Items which may be used to disrupt or interfere with the educational process may be temporarily removed from a student's possession or forfeited in accordance with law. This includes cell phones that are not being used according to classroom rules. Items seized from the student that are not illegal or dangerous will not be destroyed and will be returned to the student, the student’s family, or the rightful owner.
A general search of district facilities and properties including, but not limited to, lockers or desks may occur at any time. Searches may be conducted with the assistance of a trained police dog. Undercover police officers may be used also.
QUESTIONING- Should law enforcement officials find it necessary to question students as suspects or witnesses during the school day or during periods of extracurricular activities, the Principal or designee will be present. An effort will be made to notify the parent of the situation.
If law enforcement officials find it necessary to question students as victims, the parent will be notified before questioning occurs and the Principal or designee will be present.
Parents are advised that in suspected child abuse cases, DHS Child Welfare Services and/or law enforcement officials may exclude district personnel from the investigation procedures and may prohibit district personnel from contacting parents.
Bandon High School has implemented a unique way for parents to check on important data such as your child's attendance and academic progress (i.e. teacher's gradebook data). This access is provided via a realtime web portal called ParentVUE that is dynamically linked to the school's Student Information System. Using ParentVue/StudentVUE, you and your student can access this information by visiting the web site for Bandon High School, www.bandon.k12.or.us. This is a very useful communication tool and can be accessed from any computer or smartphone that has open access to the Internet.
To ensure the safety and welfare of students and that school work is not disrupted and visitors are properly directed to the areas in which they are interested, visitors must sign in at the high school office on each visit and wear a BHS Visitors Badge. The Principal may or may not approve requests to visit as appropriate.
