BIS Personal Project Hub

What is the Personal Project?

It is an independent research project that gives you the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge and skills you have acquired over the five year IB Middle years programme.

It is a product of your own initiative and should reflect your experience of the MYP.

You will be engaged in rigorous inquiry, research and action in order to achieve a goal of your own design.

(Driven by the International Baccalaureate philosophy).

Its an excellent opportunity for you to produce a truly creative piece of work of your choice and to demonstrate the Approaches to Learning (ATL) skills that you have learned across your study years in the MYP. If you choose the right PP, it will give you the opportunity to share with others something that is of great interest to you as an individual and show some of what you have learned as a result of being in the MYP.

It consists of a process, a product and a report

Language report is written in.

A new feature to the 2021 guide is that you may be able to report your personal project in your preferred language, as long as:

  • there is a staff member who is fluent in the same language and who can supervise you

  • BIS can meaningfully internally standardise your report by having other staff members also fluent to help grade your report.

What do I need to do?

  • Read through this Guide.

  • Access and consistently use ManageBac to display progress

  • Initiate and attend all advisory meetings with your supervisor

  • Plan ahead to ensure you meet all deadlines.

  • Refer to the Personal Project Guide by the IBO (refer to resources)

  • Talk to your parents about your project.

  • See and communicate with your advisor/supervisor (also via the ManageBac discussion forum)

  • Work to your plan.

  • Enjoy the experience!

Yourself: this is your opportunity to show the community what you can achieve: create something of which you can be proud.

Your Supervisor: initiate appointments with your supervisor and keep them; reflect on your supervisor’s advice in your Process Journal.

The Programme: this is an opportunity to attain credit for original, self- directed action unique to the MYP: so make the most of it.

Your Goal: you will only succeed if you are absolutely clear what your goal will be: clear specifications are essential.

The Criteria: make sure you understand exactly how the achievement levels will be assessed: study the descriptors.

Time Management: consistent effort throughout the process will be far more effective than one huge effort near the end.

Research: use high quality sources of information from a wide variety of media, and acknowledge them correctly.

In your Product: ensure your product or outcome is of the highest quality of which you are capable.

Your product should have an influence beyond the course of the personal project.

Your personal project should be an inspiring example for the students who will follow you in later years.

Your project should equip you with skills and knowledge that will benefit you throughout your future as a lifelong learner.
