Role of Supervisor
Your Supervisor
Your supervisor will guide you throughout your Project. He or she will not necessarily be an expert in the topic you have chosen, but will help to keep you on track so that you can meet the deadlines. At the end of the process, your supervisor will grade your project using the criteria given. It will then be standardised by a team of teachers.
You and your supervisor should meet regularly. You will be required to record at least 3 of your meetings on the Academic Honesty Form. Ensure they are spaced out over the year.
It is up to YOU to initiate meetings with the supervisor!
Requirements
The personal project must be your own work but your supervisor should play an important role supporting you through the minimum of three meeting sessions that will be reported on the academic honesty form.
It is the responsibility of the supervisor to ensure you are familiar with the requirements of the project and the assessment criteria.
The supervisor:
Should provide appropriate formative feedback that guides you in developing and improving your work.
Must provide only one round of formal feedback on your project report. They will provide general guidance rather than extensive annotations, detailed edits or extended critiques.
Feedback on your personal project must only advise you generally on how to approach and complete your work. This ensures fairness and to prevent undue influence.
Must ensure that all your work submitted for external assessment is prepared according to IB requirements.
Must explain clearly to you and your parents that all work submitted must be your own authentic and individual work.
Must use appropriate means to ensure that your work is authentic. If you submit work that is not authentic, BIS will follow our internal policy for dealing with academic integrity issues. (Plagiarism and collusion are serious breaches of IB regulations, potentially subjecting candidates to consequences for academic misconduct).
You and your supervisor are responsible for understanding all IB academic integrity requirements, especially those relating to authenticity and intellectual property.
Once you have submitted the final versions of your project materials for school-based assessment, they cannot be retracted or redone.
