AZLA Annual Conference

2018 Program Book

Single and Loving It!

Program Description:

Many very small libraries are staffed by a single person. How can you balance the day-to-day tasks required to run the library with programming, collection management, and coordinating volunteers? What kind of programs can you offer with a programming budget of slim to none? And what do you do when something unusual comes up, like a broken AC unit or a visit from a snake? This session includes practical tips from part-time, solo branch manager who is doing it all without going crazy!

Presenters:

Stephanie Fulton

Branch Manager Elfrida Library

Steph is currently the Branch Manager at Elfrida Library in deepest southern Arizona (Cochise County) and has been there for 4 years. Previously she has worked at the Military Intelligence Library on Fort Huachuca as a Librarian Technician for 4 years focusing on outreach, cataloging and social/online/historical resources, and was Branch Manager for 2 libraries in Oxfordshire and Bedfordshire, England for a total of 6 years. She really loves collection development, weeding, outreach, organizing the Summer Reading Program (although as a single staff library, she does everything including wrangling snakes), and stretching her modest budget as far as it will go. She is an avid reader of non-fiction, mostly social and European royalty history and is a Packers fan who appreciates all things cheese.
