The Arizona Transportation Information System (ATIS) refers specifically to Arizona's transportation Linear Referencing System (LRS).
ATIS is a spatial dataset that represents the centerlines for Arizona roads. While the dataset does contain centerlines for all roads open to public travel, it may also include roads restricted from public travel, like gated communities and service roads. ATIS also includes separate event layers for various road characteristics, such as pavement and traffic data, with each referring back to the centerline file for spatial location information.
ATIS plays a key role in various state and federal reports. Examples include (but are not limited to):
Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS): an annual report required by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) for all state department's of transportation and includes key elements used by various groups across the nation to monitor roadway performance.
Certified Public Mileage (CPM): Included with the annual HPMS submission, CPM reports the total mileage for all public roads in the state and directly influences the total federal dollars distributed to state DOTs each year.
All Roads Network of Linear Referenced Data (ARNOLD): The federal linear referencing system (LRS) that contains the centerline representation for all public roads in the nation.
Model Inventory of Roadway Events (MIRE): Federal report focused on providing data important for transportation safety analysis.
State Highway System (SHS) Log: State report with various roadway characteristics at specific locations along the state highway system (i.e. all ADOT-owned roads).
