Pollinator Count 2019

Pollinator Count 2019

Our goal was to observe and record the abundance and diversity of pollinators in the school's science garden. We collected baseline data last year: counting how many pollinators we saw in 6' x 6' plots in the garden. After we learned more about how specific pollinators are attracted to specific plants, we decided to change the way that we counted. So this is our NEW baseline data.

Each of the four, fourth-grade classes went outside to collect data on a day when the sky was clear and the temperature was 60 degrees F or higher. This time we worked in groups of two—one spotter and one recorder—and each group was responsible for a specific plant. We used this data sheet and protocol during the count. We only have data from one of the four classes because sadly three classes lost their data sheets before they could enter the data in our spreadsheet.
