Course Goals:
The student will be introduced to the discipline of psychology by emphasizing the history of psychology as a science, the different theoretical approaches that underlie explanations of behavior, and the contemporary research methods used by psychologists.
The student will demonstrate knowledge of the principal twentieth century approaches to psychology.
The student will develop an understanding of the relationship between biology and behavior through a study of the brain, the nervous system, the endocrine system, and genetics.
The student will develop an awareness of the differences between learned and unlearned behavior.
The student will develop an awareness of the factors of motivation and emotion and the impact of each on human development and action.
Method of evaluation:
1. Teacher observation and review of student work.
2. Quizzes and tests (mastery level 60% or better).
