When you complete a professional development event that is in the ACC database of workshops the credit will automatically be awarded into your “bank”. There may however be another event that you plan to complete for which you would like me to consider offering professional development credit. Please follow these guidelines and procedures when making that request.
In order to submit an event or workshop for professional development credit you must fill out the information required in the Professional Development Activity Log (INSERT ACTIVITY LOG LINK.) Please note that you are to submit the necessary information for approval prior to the event. All too often I get an email from someone as an afterthought, wondering if I could count a workshop that was just attended. No, I can’t count it.
While there is no definitive list of activities that can count toward your professional development hours, typically those things should fall into one or more of these categories:
Provides you new knowledge about content in the Communication discipline that you will use in your classes.
Provides you new knowledge about teaching strategies that can be used in your classes.
Provides you new knowledge with regard to potential growth as a leader in the department and/or college.
Provides you hands-on opportunities to learn a new skill that you will use in your teaching or day-to-day job tasks.
The amount of credit that is awarded for events that you attend is the "actual clock hours” that the event lasts. In the spreadsheet, please add how many anticipated clock hours you will have and then once you attend the session you would record the actual clocked hours. For example, if you plan to attend a session at NCA that lasts 1.5 hours that is your anticipated clock hours. Then you attend the session and it comes out to 2 hours that is the actual clock hours that you would report.
If approved, I will check off the event as Approved on the spreadsheet. Upon completion of the activity you will fill out the Post-Event information on the spreadsheet. Please also attach appropriate documentation that shows you attended and completed the activity.
I then approve for a second time, attesting that the activity is completed, then our team will enter the credit into your professional development bank.
