The teaching portfolio is your chance to show the members of the Faculty Evaluation Committee how you teach your classes. It is your opportunity to demonstrate excellence as a teacher. Since committee members do not normally have chances to observe your teaching, we rely on the documents that you provide in the portfolio as the basis for our evaluation.
That being said, your portfolio should:
Be submitted by the stated deadline
Contain a thorough sample of items in the specified categories
Provide evidence that you are following the minimum requirements stated in the master course syllabus for the course(s) that you teach.
Provide evidence that you are creating class lectures, discussions, learning activities, exams, and assignments that enable your students to succeed in achieving course objectives.
We hope that you will join the evaluation committee in celebration as we now “going green” with this portfolio process. A Google site will be created for you, where the folders for portfolio items will have been created, and into which you will simply upload documents from your computer. So, rather than printing countless pages and mailing notebooks, binders, and boxes to the committee, you will now simply upload files into the designated areas.
To help you prepare, on this new web site you will find a description of the specific categories that need to be completed for each portfolio year. We have tried to make this process as simple as possible. And, by popular demand from many of you, we have included samples of Teaching Philosophy statements, Course Commentaries, and Faculty Development Plans for you to view as you are composing your own documents. These items are required in the 2nd and 3rd year portfolio submissions.
Please contact the Department Chair if you have any questions about this portfolio process, or would like to share your portfolio materials with your peers.
