Highest to Hire Priority Status: To maintain HPTH status in our department an adjunct faculty member must continue to achieve ratings of “excellent” in all categories of the annual evaluation summary, complete a minimum of four (4) hours of professional development hours during the academic year, remain compliant with required college training modules, and receive an acceptable rating with regard to administrative performance of college and department policies and procedures. This policy took effect fall, 2016 and was applied to evaluations that were conducted in spring 2017 for the fall 2015 - spring 2016 academic year.

After the initial three years of employment at ACC, instructors are only required to submit portfolios every three years. During the "off"/exempt years, our Department asks that its instructors submit their Course Syllabi for courses taught during the most recent academic year (FA, SP, SU) as part of their Annual Faculty Evaluation.
Instructors should submit their most current versions of syllabi and different versions, if they exist (e.g. DIL, DLA, ONL, HYD, etc.) Make certain to include the daily schedule if it it not embedded in your syllabus. Reviewers also need to see that the most current college policies are provided to your students. Please be sure that a cover page is included with each of the syllabi submitted that indicates:
Instructor Name
Semester & Year
Course, Section Number, & SYN
Type of Course (e.g. HYC)
In addition to your Course Syllabi, you should also upload Faculty Input Forms and Student Evaluations for the past semesters. Student Evaluations are emailed directly to the instructors by ACC. You can retrieve your spring and summer from your Bb courses. If you need electronic copies of your Faculty Input Forms, please contact our department.
Thank you again for your service to our department!
Student course evaluations are conducted every semester and it is required for each course. The evaluations are available online via the course's Blackboard shell.
These evaluations are to be completed in a timely fashion, and by the deadline designated by the Faculty Evaluations Office (typically 2-3 weeks before the end of the semester). Course evaluation calendar.
For additional questions and concerns regarding Student Evaluations, please contact the Faculty Evaluations Office at facultyevaluation@austincc.edu.
The professional service element of an evaluation, which is required for full-time faculty but optional for adjunct faculty members, is based on a review of non-teaching duties of a faculty member. Professional service includes, but is not limited to, department participation, curriculum development, college committee service, lab/tutor supervision, compliance with administrative procedures, interaction with faculty/staff, and any other relevant data.
Per the ACC Faculty Evaluations Procedures handbook, the Administrative Performance rating is based on compliance with ACC policies and procedures including the following criteria:
Conducting required student evaluations
Conducting posted office hours
Timely submission of grades
Timely submission of faculty input forms
Timely submission of syllabi at beginning of each semester
Any information provided on the Administrative Input Form may be included as part of administrative performance.
All ACC employees are required to complete Professional Development hours each academic year. As of Fall 2019, these requirements include the following for Adjunct and Full-Time Faculty:
Adjunct Faculty:
All current/continuing Adjunct Faculty members are required to complete four (4) hours of professional development each year.
After completion of the professional development required by ACC for all employees, remaining hours should be selected from activities directly related to supporting best practices in Teaching and Learning.
Full-Time Faculty:
All current/continuing Full-Time Faculty members are required to complete 12 hours of professional development each year divided into the following categories: (see AR #6.07.002)
Legal/Governmental Relations training: Up to four (4) hours
Teaching and Learning (supporting best practices): Four (4) to six (6) hours
Professional growth in the discipline: Up to three (3) hours
ACC Employees are required to complete the following trainings during the timelines listed below. (See Timeline Table at Bottom of Page.)
Completion of the required training is part of a faculty member's administrative performance on the Annual Evaluation Summary form because it is required by the college. If completed, the hours may count toward your required professional development hours but if not completed, your administrative performance rating is affected.
ACC offers many opportunities for Professional Development, which can be accessed at the Workshop Registration page. Once you log in to this page, you can see how many hours of Professional Development you've completed.
You can also complete other types of Professional Development with the approval of your supervisor. Access the Professional Development Activity Log (INSERT LINK TO DEPT SPREADSHEET.)
